Sunday, March 1, 2009Their house must be so boring…

By Sarah - 2 Comments »

We were watching a show on HGTV and the camera was panning around this couple’s house. Adam was watching very intently when he suddenly said:

“They don’t have any toys! Those poor people, they don’t have any toys in their house. They’re so sad.”

Since our living room is basically toy city, he must think their house would be so boring!

Josh has been obsessed with birds lately and gets very excited when he sees them in the front yard on the bird feeder. So today we went to a local pet store and got the boys their very own birds. The blue one is Adam’s and the green one is Josh’s. Adam has named them Chicken Nugget (green) and Pom Pom (blue).

Sunday, February 15, 2009Baked Potato Soup

By Sarah - 1 Comment »

1 lb. baking potatoes (about 2), cubed
1 can (14-1/2 oz.) chicken broth
1 cup milk
3 rashers of bacon, cooked, crumbled and divided
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
1 green onion sliced, divided (we prefer to use 2)
1/4 cup sour cream

Microwave potatoes in large microwaveable bowl on high for 5 minutes, stirring after 2-1/2 min.
Stir in broth and milk.
Microwave 10 minutes., stirring after 5 min. (We did this step twice because the potatoes were not ready.)
Carefully mash potatoes. (You could also run it through a blender for extra smoothness.)
Reserve 2 Tbsp. each bacon and cheese and 1 Tbsp. onions for topping. Stir remaining bacon, cheese and onions into soup.
Serve topped with reserved bacon, cheese, onions and sour cream.

So here’s a map of countries who don’t yet have the metric system as their primary or sole system of measurement:

Mayanmar, Liberia, and the United States. Seriously people, when are you going to get with the program?!

Sunday, February 1, 2009Puzzling…

By Sarah - 1 Comment »

Adam is very into jigsaw puzzles. He has passed down all his baby wooden puzzles to Josh and has been doing regular small jigsaws with anywhere from 12-24 pieces for quite some time now, with no problems whatsoever. I also got him a puzzle of the USA a few months ago that has a piece for every state and he has mastered that too!

So today I had to go to a local book store and took Adam with me for the ride. Before I went searching for my book, we had a look in the children’s section to see if they had any more of the cheap paperback Clifford the Big Red Dog books that Adam loves and while there we took a look at what puzzles they had. Since he has been a good boy lately, I helped him pick one out - a 63 piece puzzle rated for over 5 years old with a quite intricate picture to put together (picture above).

Well, wouldn’t you know it? He’s almost completing it on his own already. Tonight before bed he did the puzzle twice with only a small amount of help from James or myself. That’s pretty impressive if you ask me!

Sunday, February 1, 2009Finger Lickin’ Fruit Dip

By Sarah - 2 Comments »

1 can sweetened condensed milk
3 small limes

Using fine grater, scrape the zest from two of the limesand place in a bowl.
Squeeze juice from all three limes into bowl.
Add can of sweetened condensed milk and stir well.
Refrigerate at least one hour until set.

Note: We dipped strawberries in this dip and it was delicious! My kids love to dip plain animal crackers or graham crackers in it too!

By Sarah - 1 Comment »

Wow, this is a first and we’re so happy about it! Adam is potty trained during the day but still wears a night time pullup. Last night he got up at 5:30am to tell us he needed to go potty! So he went and his diaper was still dry this morning! Such a milestone! Let’s hope it continues. :)
