We have been wanting a bench and shelf combo for months but everything we found was too expensive. Last week we found a killer deal at JCPenney.com that also had free shipping so we purchased this:

Yesterday afternoon I was excited to see big boxes on our doorstep and went to retrieve them. What I received from JCPenney was this:

Umm…..ok. You can’t help but laugh. As cute as the popcorn cart is, we can’t really hang it on our wall to store wallets and keys. So we called their customer service department and explained the situation. They said UPS would pick up the popcorn cart on Friday and they would resend the shelf portion of our set. They said it would be 7-10 days and refused to upgrade the shipping unless we paid for it, which was really quite annoying since this was not our screwup to begin with.

So last night after the boys went to bed, James opened the box that held the bench so he could assemble it. After taking out all the pieces he discovered that one of them was quite badly damaged. We called customer service again and explained the entire situation and they ended up cancelling the resend of the shelf, adding the damaged bench to the Friday UPS pickup, and resending the entire bench and shelf combo all over again. This time when we asked they agreed to upgrade the shipping for free and our new set should theoretically be here on Monday.

It’s a shame we couldn’t keep the popcorn cart since we have a home theatre in the basement and it would have been an awesome addition!

It kills me that I can’t see your blog pictures. A popcorn cart sounds like fun but not if you didn’t order it.
