Saturday, November 15, 2008Busy day…

Today was a busy one….it was nice to be out and about for a change.
This morning we went to Lumber Liquidators and bought hardwood floors! We bought Brazilian Cherry floor boards and James is going to install them in our living and dining rooms with his father’s help when he arrives from England for Thanksgiving. I’m so excited! No more crappy stained carpet!
After that I took Adam to the movies for the very first time. We went to see Madagascar 2 and it was a semi-disaster. He was very excited to get popcorn and candy before we went in, but once we got into the theatre he didn’t want to sit on his chair because he wasn’t heavy enough to hold the seat down properly. Then partway into the movie he wanted to sit on my lap, which was fine except it made it awkward for him to put his drink back into the cup holder and he ended up dropping it. When the cup fell, it landed quite hardly up the right way which caused the lid to pop off and diet coke to explode upwards, splashing everyone around us. Then when I got up to move us to an emptier area so that he wouldn’t bother the people around us anymore, I knocked over the cup and what was left in it ran down the aisle. We got to our new seats and watched some more of the movie but I think he was too distracted to watch and eventually he told me he wanted to leave. So we didn’t see the whole movie and I think I’ll be waiting till he’s a bit older to go back again.
On the way home from the movies, I stopped by our local supermarket to get the fixings for dinner. Tonight I made roast beef, crockpot creamy garlic mashed potatoes, green beans, and onion gravy from scratch. It was delicious! I discovered that Josh loves roast beef - he ate is entire portion, seconds, and part of mine! He didn’t even mind the gravy! My discovery of the ability to make the mashed potatoes 2 hours early and sit them in the crockpot was a godsend. It saves the whole juggling of timing at the end and they taste perfectly hot, like they were freshly made! It also allows you to do potato cleanup early so there’s less to clean later on. I’ll definitely be doing that again!
